Excelsior's
lose on the road
After a big 10-3
victory on Thursday night's home opener the Excelsior's
traveled to Six Nations in an attempt to steal an
early season series advantage over the resurging
Chiefs. The Excelsior's knew that this would be
a big challenge with 4 call-ups in the line-up,
but felt that they were up to the task.
Six Nations got
on the board early on a quick transition bounce
shot less than three minutes into the game. After
failing to capitalize on the power-play Brampton
finally got one back halfway through the period
on a blast from Aaron Wilson that dribbled past
Vinc. Six Nations would regain the lead on a delayed
Brampton penalty a couple of minutes later. With
just under a minute to go, Mike Hominuck would tie
it up with a nice bounce shot from the right hand
side, but Brampton took a penalty with 5 seconds
remaining in the period and Six Nations capitalized
quickly with an outside shot to take a 3-2 lead
into the break.
Cosmo continued
to make big saves throughout the game with many
Six Nations breakaways amounting to nothing. With
Paul Dawson in the box his brother Dan found himself
behind the Nations Defense, received a beautiful
pass, and finished it off with a diving goal to
bring the game back to even. The Chiefs were able
to respond once again at the ten minute mark and
then added a power-play goal less than a minute
later to extend their lead to 2. Shortly thereafter
the first fight of the season broke out but Paul
Dawson had little trouble in handling Ben Salo and
it was hoped that this would bring momentum back
to the Excelsiors. Sure enough Mike Hominuck scored
his second of the night driving down the left side
to bring Brampton back to within one. Brampton then
found themselves on the power-play in the remaining
two minutes of the period, but Six Nations was able
to kill it off to end the period 5-4 Chiefs.
The home side came back firing on all cylinders.
Six Nations would score 3 straight goals within
the opening 4 minutes and showed the crowd that
they really meant business. Brampton continued to
get into penalty trouble and the Chiefs capitalized
once again with eight minutes remaining to increase
their lead to 5. The storm outside the building
became just as obvious as the one taking place inside
for the Brampton squad. There was a flash of hope
as Brampton scored 2 quick goals with 3 minutes
to go, but Six Nations quickly responded with one
of their own and that put a stop to the hopes of
the Excelsiors. The game ended with the Chiefs winning
10-6.
Brampton hosts the
Barrie Lakeshores this Thursday at the Powerade
Centre at 8:00.
