Lack of 'O' in the 'Borough

After an impressive 12-4 victory in Brooklin on Wednesday night Brampton had to get on the bus to Peterborough Thursday afternoon to finish off a very challenging back to back section in the schedule. The same line-up that won in Brooklin took the floor with the exception of Blaine Manning suiting up, and Pat Campbell starting in goal.

After failing to capitalize on an early powerplay advantage, Mike Carnegie fired the ball towards the net from the Brampton restraining line and Aaron Wilson was in front to deflect it in for an early Brampton lead 6 minutes in. Peterborough would tie the game with a shorthanded goal midway through the first and then took the lead with a powerplay marker with just over 6 minutes to go. Patrick Merrill would score a nice transition goal less than 2 minutes later, and then Scott Carnegie would put Brampton back on top as Pat O'Toole found himself out of position with a minute left in the period. Brampton took the 3-2 edge into the break.

Just a minute into the second, the Lakers would even the score. The Carnegie brothers grabbed a loose ball and streaked down the floor where Mike put one past Peterborough's keeper, but 2 minutes later Peterborough would gain an offensive loose ball to even it up once again. The rest of the second period was all Peterborough with 4 straight goals including 2 breakaways and another one coming as the result of an offensive loosie. The Lakers would end the second up 8-4.

Brampton's offense would finally contribute as Aaron Wilson found Bryan Johnson open less than 3 minutes into the final period, but Peterborough responded less than 2 minutes later to regain their advantage and than added another rather quickly. Brampton found themselves on the powerplay once again but unfortunately were still unable to put anything together offensively. Peterborough would add another powerplay goal later on in the period and cruised to the 11-5 finish.

Brampton travels to Barrie on Sunday to finish up this road trip and hope that with some players coming back in the line-up they can rediscover the offensive chemistry that seems to have been lacking. They then play all 3 games against Kitchener in a row with the first and only home game being held at the Powerade Centre on July 2nd.
