Excelsior's Feast On Redmen
By Brian R. Johnston
Brampton, ON -
Thursday's game between the Brampton
Excelsior's and the Brooklin Redmen proved to be
exactly what the doctor ordered for the Excelsior's
offensive struggles that have existed during this
MSL season, as they were able to feast on the Redmen
by a score of 15 - 6.
For what ever reason, the offense
just hasn't been able to measure up to its capabilities
until tonight and they finally managed to score
at will thanks to a rejuvenated attack that showed
up hungry and eager to answer the many questions
being asked by both fans and management alike.
Leading the way for the Excelsior's,
were; Aaron Wilson with 4 goals and 4 assists for
8 points on the night, Dan Dawson and Mike Hominuck
with 3 goals each and singles going to Paul Dawson,
Jon Harasym, Josh Sanderson and Jeff Shattler.
Also adding to the attack were Goaltender
Anthony Cosmo with 1 assist, Colin Doyle who had
4 assists, Blaine Manning with 6 assists, Brodie
Merrill with 2 assists, and other singles going
to Harasym, Phil Sanderson, Can Woods and Jeff Shattler.
Anthony Cosmo also gave the crowd
a number of reasons to be happy as he delivered
an excellent display of goaltending in this one
by stopping 28 of the 34 shots he faced.
The Excelsior's can also be commended
for the class, respect and sportsmanship they offered
to the Redmen, as they played two serious periods
that were totally focused on the dominance required
to maintain their position atop the MSL and then
for the tremendous work ethic of control in a defensive
posture during the third period.
Tonight's effort is the minimum
of what will be needed during the remainder of the
season and throughout the upcoming playoffs, if
they are to be successful in accomplishing their
goal of hosting and winning the Mann Cup in 2008
and their loyal fans will certainly help keep them
on the straight and narrow to accomplish that goal.
The Excelsior's will have a week
off prior to playing 3 games in 4 nights, against
KW Kodiaks, St. Regis (at home) on Saturday July
5th and Barrie on July 6th.
