Brampton
continues winning ways
After some well
deserved time off the Brampton Excelsiors returned
to action on Thursday night against a Brooklin team
that saw defeat in overtime the night before. Brampton
was quick to jump on them as Colin Doyle blasted
one in on Brampton's first possession. Dan Teat
would add to the lead less than 3 minutes later
with Josh Sanderson and Doyle getting the assists.
The rest of the opening frame saw a lot of back
and forth action as Pat Campbell stood tall in the
Brampton net and Kurtis Wager held Brooklin in it.
Kevin Ross would make it 3 - 0 for the home team
before the period ended.
Colin Doyle would
get the first 2 markers of the second period to
extend the Brampton lead. Bryan Johnson would increase
the gap to six before Brooklin found an answer to
the Brampton netminder and scored two quick goals
to climb back into the game. With under 2 minutes
to go in the period Pat Merrill streaked down the
floor, barreled through a defender and as he was
going down managed to beat Wager and restore a five
goal gap.
Brooklin came out
in the third with some extra effort. They scored
2 goals in the opening 2 minutes to bring them back
to within striking distance but Kevin Ross responded
quickly with his second of the night to stifle any
momentum. Josh Sanderson would tiptoe around the
crease and bury one for his third point of the night
giving him 1100 points as an Excelsior (one shy
of 1200 overall). Brampton would add 3 more in quick
succession before easing up on the gas and cruising
to a 12 - 5 final. Colin Doyle would end the night
with 3 goals and 5 assists and leads the Excelsiors
in scoring at this point in the season.
This Saturday the
Powerade Centre features a double header with the
Junior A's doing battle against Akwesasne at 3:00
and the Major's hosting the rubber match against
St. Regis at 7:00. After the Major game the Brampton
Excelsior Dance Team will be hosting a party up
at the Real Stars Cafe at the Powerade Centre where
pitchers will be on sale for only $12.
