Excelsiors battle for win in Brooklin
Don't let the final score fool you; Wednesday night's
game in Brooklin took a solid 60 minute effort before
the Excelsior's walked out of Whitby with a 14-8
victory.
Captain Dan Teat scored his first
of what would be a momentous night for him to open
the scoring 3 minutes into the game on a Brampton
power-play. Brooklin would answer 8 full minutes
later on a fast break to tie the game, but after
killing off a Brooklin power-play, Aaron Wilson
would score the next 2 goals to end the first period
3-1 Brampton.
Brooklin came back to tie the game
with 2 more fast break goals only 3 minutes into
the second frame. Aaron Wilson answered again to
regain the lead for Brampton shortly thereafter.
Mike Hominuck and Paul (yes Paul) Dawson gave the
Excelsiors 2 more to give them a 6-3 lead halfway
through the period. After stopping several more
breakaways from the Redmen, Miller was finally beaten
once again by former Excel Bobby McBride, and Brooklin
added another with 15 seconds left to end the period
6-5 Brampton.
Only 90 seconds into the 3rd period
McBride broke free again to tie the game at 6. Dan
Dawson answered with his first of the night, but
Shawn Williams did the same shortly afterward to
leave the game at 7's. But then the Excelsiors offense
exploded. Dan Dawson scored the next one (his 200th
career goal) 30 seconds later, and 4 more Excelsior
goals (Chapman, Harasym, Doyle, Teat) were quick
to follow, giving Brampton a 12-7 lead. The teams
traded 2 goals a piece to get us to the 14-8 final.
Dan Teat had a 7 point night (3G,
4A) and has surpassed the1100 career point mark.
Meanwhile Aaron Wilson continues to rack up the
goals with a 4 goal performance. But the Excelsiors
have no time for rest as they seek retribution from
the only team that has beaten them so far, the Kitchener-Waterloo
Kodiaks tonight at 8:00 at the Powerade Centre.
