Excelsior's
redeem themselves
Last week the Brampton
Excelsiors took the floor at the Powerade centre
and with a very questionable performance found themselves
on the losing end to the Barrie Lakeshores. The
team had since regrouped with great performances
on the weekend in Montreal (split),
and another on Tuesday night in Six Nations. Their
return to the Powerade centre came against the same
Barrie team, and would give them an opportunity
to redeem themselves from last weeks result.
Brampton would
open the scoring early as Josh Sanderson would find
Dan Teat on Brampton's first possession and the
Captain would bury it 34 seconds in. Colin Doyle
would add another 2 minutes later. Barrie would
respond with one of their own less than a minute
later, but Brampton would put up two more (Wilson
and Teat) in quick succession to gain a 4 - 1 advantage.
This was the same score that the home town fans
saw the week before prior to Brampton's collapse,
so nothing was being taken for granted. This week
the team was not going to let up. The Brampton defense
continued to apply heavy pressure, and Cosmo made
some incredible saves. Brampton would add 3 more
before the period was up as Dan Dawson put in his
first of the night, and defenders Phil Sanderson
and Scott Carnegie would both chip in transition
markers.
The Excelsiors
would continue to apply pressure in the second period.
Dan Dawson would score the next 3 Brampton goals
before Dan Teat would complete his own hat trick.
Dawson would add yet another, making it 5 on the
night for one of Brampton's newest firefighters.
Aaron Wilson would get his second of the night and
then rookie Jordon Coffey would score his 1st of
the season to give the Excelsior's a 14 - 1 advantage
at the end of the 2nd.
Brampton came out
in the third and despite playing for the full 30
second shot clock, continued to add to the lead.
Jordon Coffey would add 2 more during the period,
Dan Teat would get another, and Tuesday's hero Kevin
Ross would get the last 2 Brampton goals of the
night. Barrie continued to play, and added the last
two goals of the game with under 5 minutes to go,
but this was Brampton's night and the game would
conclude with a final score of 19 - 3 for the home
team.
Brampton gets some
well deserved time off this weekend and do not return
to action until Thursday June 18th when they host
the Brooklin Redmen. The following Saturday the
Powerade Centre features a double header with the
Junior A's doing battle against Akwesasne at 3:00
and the Major's hosting the rubber match against
St. Regis at 7:00. After the Major game the Brampton
Excelsior Dance Team will be hosting a party up
at the Real Stars Café at the Powerade Centre…stay
tuned for more details.
