Brampton, ON –
The Peterborough Lakers came into
game 4 of the best of 7 series trailing the Brampton
Excelsiors 2 games to 1 game and needed to win or
they would be looking squarely down the barrel of
elimination on Saturday night in game 5 of the series
in Peterborough.
They succeeded in their quest and
evened the series at 2 games apiece with their 11
– 10 double overtime victory before a lively and
rambunctious crowd at the Powerade Centre.
Dan Carey scored his only goal of
the contest in overtime to nail down the win and
the other marksman for the Lakers were; Tracy Kelusky
(3), Jason Clark (2), Scott Evans (2) with both
Josh Wasson, Sean Thompson and John Grant notching
singles.
The Excelsior’s had goals from Aaron
Wilson (2), Dan Teat (2), Brodie Merrill (2) and
singles going to Blaine Manning, Josh Sanderson,
Jeff Shattler and Mike Hominuk.
The emotional and boisterous crowd
were into this one from the opening whistle and
were treated to a spectacular exhibition of MSL
lacrosse that was filled with brilliant offensive
bursts, tremendous defensive coverage, spectacular
goaltending and a never say die persona from both
teams.
The concentration and extra effort
was evident throughout and it was a shame that there
had to be a loser, as both teams were deserving
of the win, but in the end, it was the home team
Excelsior’s that took it on the chin and the series
now becomes a best 2 out of 3 with Peterborough
holding the home floor advantage with the deciding
game to be played, if necessary in Peterborough
on Wednesday night.
Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell was
in attendance and had this to say, “This was one
of the most exciting lacrosse games I have the pleasure
of seeing in quite some time and I know from those
people that were in attendance here tonight certainly
won’t want to be anywhere else next Monday, when
we will hopefully be able to put the finishing touches
on this series.” “Our fans are the greatest and
I want to see the Powerade Centre filled to the
rafters next Monday night in support the Excelsior’s,
as they bid to earn their birth in this year’s Mann
Cup.”
