Home
floor advantage???
Aug22/07
In
the battles between the Excelsiors and the Lakers,
the home side has yet to eke out a victory. But,
with an 11-6 victory in Peterborough, the Excelsiors
are hoping to bring that trend to a halt in Brampton
on Thursday night at 8:00 and take a 3-1 series
lead.
The
Peterborough Lakers came out flying in front of
3100 people at Memorial arena. Just over 4 minutes
in Dan Carey buried one. This was closely followed
with goals from John Grant and Josh Gillam. The
Excelsiors found themselves down by three only five
minutes into the game. At the seven minute mark
Jon Harasym blasted in a powerplay goal to get the
Excelsiors on the board. This goal was assisted
by Blaine Manning, who with that point achieved
his 500th of his major career. Less than two minutes
later Peterborough responded with a powerplay goal
of their own by Scott Evans, but the ensuing faceoff
saw Pat McCready streaking down the floor and he
made no mistake. Patrick Merrill added a third goal
for Brampton as he came out of the penalty box unnoticed,
drawing the Excelsiors within one.
Two
minutes into the second, Dan Teat capitalized on
the powerplay to tie the game. Peterborough fought
back with a goal from Tracey Kelusky and a powerplay
goal from John Grant 13 minutes in to regain their
two goal lead. Mike Kirk broke down the floor to
bring the Excels back to one, and with O’Toole standing
by his bench on a penalty kill, Mike Carnegie grabbed
a dropped ball and buried it from the restraining
line to tie the game at 6 at the end of the second
period.
Five
minutes into the third and Dan Teat gave Brampton
their first lead of the game, a lead that they would
not give up. Sean Holmes broke free and scored a
breakaway goal with 7:15 left to play, and Dan Teat
finished off his hat trick less than 30 seconds
later. The Excelsiors added 2 empty net goals courtesy
of Patrick Merrill and Mike Kirk to seal the deal.
