Excelsiors Refocused Effort Sees
Them Dominate Lakers
By Brian R. Johnston
Brampton, On -
Thursday's demoralizing loss to the Kodiaks was possibly
one of the best things that could have happened to
them, this early into the MSL season, as it made them
refocus their efforts in a positive manner in order
to knock off the Peterborough Lakers 13 - 9 to up
their record to 4 wins and 1 loss on the year.
Their efforts and resilience saw them totally dominate
the Lakers in every area of the game as they out shot
the opposition by a margin of 53 - 27 and play an
extremely solid defensive game that didn't allow the
Lakers a shot on net until the 6:48 mark of the first
frame.
They received scoring throughout the line up as Jeff
Shattler (2), Sandy Chapman (2), Dan Teat (2), Aaron
Wilson (2), Paul Dawson, Dan Dawson, Bruce Codd and
Mike Hominuck all managed to beat Derek Collins in
the Laker goal.
The only real threat throughout the game for the Lakers
ended up being Corry Vitterelli with a 5 goal game
that caused most of the havoc that the Excelsiors
experienced.
Their were a number of penalties called in the game
as both teams found themselves using tactic that were
definitely questionable and numerous skirmishes broke
out as is customary with these two teams, but the
officials managed on this occasion to keep the lid
on the flared tempers of all combatants.
The Excelsiors next 3 games will see them traveling
to Barrie for their next encounter, to Peterborough
for a game next Thursday and then they move on to
Brooklin for thee third game before returning home
to face the Kodiaks once again to hopefully reverse
the loss they had suffered in their first head to
head match of the year.
All fans are encouraged to show their support for
the Excelsiors by contacting Vice-President Tomm Branon
of the Excelsiors via email at "Vice-president
Brampton Major Excelsiors" <be-lax@hotmail.com>,
with their well wishes and ticket enquiries for up
coming games at the Powerade Centre.
