Brampton Bites
Back
With 2 of Brampton's 3 losses coming
from the Kitchener Waterloo Kodiaks both in the
confines of the Powerade Centre, last nights trip
to K-W was the last chance in the regular season
that the Excelsior's would have for retribution.
The game started off rough for the
Excelsior's. The defense and starting goaltender
Anthony Cosmo were under heavy pressure, while the
offense sputtered, apparently needing to shake off
the rust from the week off. K-W opened up the scoring
3 and a half minutes in to take the early lead.
The Brampton defense decided that it was time they
helped out after 10 minutes without a goal and Paul
Dawson streaked down the floor on a two on one to
bring the score back to even. Cam Woods followed
suit a minute later, taking a bullet pass from Anthony
Cosmo to give the Excelsior's the lead, and some
much needed momentum. Dan Teat popped in a power-play
goal later on and the period ended 3-1 Brampton.
The Kodiaks battled back in the
second adding a power-play marker of their own 2
minutes in, and then tying up the game 4 minutes
later. Brampton would answer on the power-play,
when Colin Doyle found himself all alone in the
offensive zone after the Brampton defense stripped
the ball quickly and passed it up to him. Dan Teat
banged in his second of the night which saw the
Brampton lead return to 2, but also gave Josh Sanderson
his 1000th point as an Excelsior. K-W would add
another power-play marker shortly thereafter, but
in the dying seconds of the period (0:00.7) Teat
would complete the hat trick to give Brampton a
6-4 lead at the break.
Brampton came out firing in the
third, scoring three goals (Hominuck SHG, Manning,
Sanderson) inside of six minutes. The Kodiaks would
get 2 of them back before the halfway point of the
period, but that was where it would end for their
scoring on the night. Aaron Wilson and Sean Holmes
would each add a goal near the end of the game,
which led to a Brampton 11 Kitchener-Waterloo 6
final.
Brampton now sits in sole possession
of first place in the MSL standings, but are home
to the second place St. Regis Indians this Saturday
night before heading to Orillia to face the struggling
Barrie Lakeshores on Sunday night.
